March 21, 2010 fso2(cornucopia) bumped

Fso2 (cornucopia) ebuilds big update. All ebuilds including fsoinitd/fso-alsa etc in emebedded-cross overlay now.

April 4, 2010 (Easter) New GCC-4.4 line finally checked in

We proudly announce that the new GCC with a really simple patch made available in the embedded overlay and is finally on the master branch. I left this one with "~arm" keyword. Hopefully we can remove that soon.

March 21, 2010 Help updating our documentation!

A lot of stuff has changed since the initial documentation was written, e.g. crossdev-wrappers got integrated into crossdev, we moved to git, etc. That's why we need you for updating documentation! Please fix the wiki pages, remove old crap and adapt to the current state. It would be also helpful to point to the new Gentoo embedded handbook! If there are any questions, please ask on IRC.

March 20, 2010 Move to GIT.

Yes, this is yet another (and hopefully the last) move of our overlay. :-) We did this to improve the cooperation with other groups, namely the neuvoo people (http://neuvoo.org) and the guys maintaining the arm-overlay (http://gitorious.org/gentoo-arm-overlay). From now on, we will all work on the same overlay, which means more testers and more developers! Furthermore, the move to git gives allows us to create branches and have a more decentralized development. Let's see how this works out...

What does this all mean for you? Well, you need to checkout the new overlay at http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=proj/embedded-cross.git;a=summary first. This is done by calling 

   cd $somewhere
   git clone git://git.overlays.gentoo.org/proj/embedded-cross.git

This command gives you a directory $somewhere/embedded-cross, which contains the overlay. You will notice that the openmoko, trunk and openmoko-target parts are gone, so please adapt the following settings to the new overlay:

  • overlay path in the host's /etc/make.conf
  • the host's /etc/portage/package.{keywords,mask,unmask,use} paths
  • overlay path in the target's /usr/$CHOST/etc/make.conf
  • the target's /usr/$CHOST/etc/portage/package.{keywords,mask,unmask,use} paths
  • the target's profile link /usr/$CHOST/etc/make.profile

We hope you enjoy the new overlay and happily report bugs and send patches! ;-)

August 11, 2009 Spam flood counter measures.

Due to the massive spam problem we faced during the last few weeks we are forced to take some counter measures. For now we removed the registration button and form from our site, deleted the remaining spam accounts and the wiki spam pages, so we are back to a sane site. However, removing the registration has the drawback that new users can not register themselves to the site and thus not add or modify new wiki pages, tickets or patches.

New users, please send an email to admin _at_ gentoo.mindzoo.de containing at least your username and we will add the user for you.

Hopefully, we can get the registration back with some spam account prevention soon.

Jun 16, 2009 The Gentoo Openmoko Team proudly announces Milestone3!

Better late then never... :-) We are happy to announce that milestone 3 is completed. Perl has been shifted once again, as we still have no perl hacker in the team... If you can help there, feel free to contact us!

In milestone 3 there are alot of small fixes and some cleanup of the overlay. The probably most relevant news is a fix for python-2.6 (thx to max_posedon) and a ncurses fix. In the next release, the focus is on shrinking the overlay further and make Xorg rock stable! Have fun and watch out for bugs as usual! ;-)
